About
You'll find some of the best holes in Hua Hin at this spectacular Army-owned links course
Opened amidst much fanfare in 2010, Sea Pine Golf Course is the only course in Hua Hin with holes that run right alongside the beach, and comes across like a tropical version of a Scottish links course. It's a stunning backdrop to a course whose difficulty depends on the strength of the wind coming in from the Gulf of Thailand. The course is in great condition, with excellent facilities, and comes highly recommended.
The opening two holes are quite straightforward, but things get interesting at the par-5 3rd, which requires a carry over water from the tee and avoiding the water hazard that runs all along the left hand side. Bunkers lie in wait for your second and then it’s another daunting carry over water to the green. The 4th is a dog-leg and if you get greedy and try to cut off too much then you can end up in the trees with no hope of reaching the green.
The 7th is another tricky dog-leg with a huge bunker protecting the direct route to the fairway and if you get out of position with your second then you can get blocked out by a larger tree beside the green.
The standout of the front nine is probably the par-4 9th, which is shaped like a banana. Big hitters can try to go straight over the water to the green, but if you choose to play safe it’s difficult to avoid the bunker at the far side of the fairway. Even if you succeed, there’s still a tricky approach over more water to a sharply sloping green and if you over club then you will pace a fast downhill putt.
The challenges keep coming on the back nine at Sea Pines Golf Club. The par-5 12th provides a memorably tricky proposition from the tee, with water along the right hand side and a fairway bunker seemingly positioned at the exact point where a drive would land. You can avoid it by playing safe or getting lucky, but if you choose the former option you will struggle to make the green in regulation.
The wind really comes to the fore at the last three holes which are pretty special, lying right next to the beach; the breeze makes landing your ball on the narrow fairway of the 16th a real challenge, but we really enjoyed sending our balls out towards the sea and watching the wind bring them back.
The signature 17th with breathtaking panoramic views is a par-3 over a large lake to a well protected sloping green, and the final hole involves a 200 yard carry over a canal and ranks as the hardest on the course.
The restaurant with its terrace overlooking the sea is a great place to relax and discuss your round over a beer or two or some tasty Thai food. The course is run by the Thai Army so the service is not as slick as some of the other courses in the area, and Army officers get priority, so make sure to book a tee time ahead of time, because this is a course you should definitely play as part of your Hua Hin golf holiday.
Reviews
Great experience all around. Good value. Caddies were very good.
Challenging course with lots of sand and water hazards, but great fun nonetheless. Rental clubs were ok.Very fair course with many hazards mainly water but with lots of opportunity to avoid
Quiet when we arrived and requested an earlier tee time which they agreed. Breakfast (Thai ) was very good and reasonably priced. Excellent facilities and for the price, a very interesting course albeit it was mainly flat being on the coast. Course in good condition. Greens fast and undulating. Game made easier because of very knowlgable caddies. Great experience. Would certainly like to go back againGreat course for the price
A flat course with bunkers and water. A seaside course so the condition was not as plush as Black Mountain, but about a third of the price. Course nevertheless in good condition with knowledgeable caddies. An enjoyable experience,Course Info
