Lake View Golf Club
About
A wide variety of challenges over 36 of the most scenic holes in Hua Hin
Attractively set in the foothills near Kaeng Krachan National Park lies the Roger Packard-designed Lake View Golf Club, offering 36 holes of sumptuous golf in a natural, relaxing environment. A long-time favourite of both locals and visitors thanks to its scenic vistas, it’s definitely worth a stop on any Hua Hin golf holiday.
The main championship course, comprising the Mountain (A) and Lake (B) nines, has since been supplemented by two additional nines, one in a refreshingly unusual desert style (C) and a fourth (D) fairly unimaginatively based on Scottish links.
The main A-B course is split by a large lake, and the streams that supply it run through and along many of the holes. With its mature trees, severe dog-legs and occasional blind shots, on some holes you can find yourself struggling to make par no matter what your handicap.
Thankfully there are enough easy holes where you can make back your inevitable dropped shots. The standout hole is probably the long par-3 14th, which plays from an island tee box to an island green. Keeping your ball dry should be considered an achievement regardless of your score.
The Desert nine is a thinking golfer's course, and often rated as the best set of holes in the region. Careful planning and some strategic shot making are required in order to tame this unusual beast, particularly the deceptively short 4th, where you have to avoid not just the stream across the fairway but also a series of rocky outcrops that can easily catch you out.
The latest nine added at Lake View Golf Club in 2006, the Links course, is more of a straightforward affair, the open fairways and sparse trees allowing for good scoring without capturing the imagination. Nonetheless, whichevery course combination you choose you can be guaranteed an enjoyable round.
The clubhouse at Lake View is fairly basic but offers a relaxed atmosphere, elegant changing facilities and excellent food. Practice facilities include a grass driving range and area to test your short game. There’s also a 3-star hotel onsite if you want to play multiple rounds here, but it’s a bit far out of town to justify an extended stay.
Reviews
Really good layout and you have to play well. Some of the fairways very sandy - need some rain. Played off the gold which was a good test.
Problem was I was on my own behind 4 / fourballs. I fortunately joined up with two others. It was that slow that after the 8th we went to the 11th and had a great round after. Apparently, the caddies got in trouble which was unfortunate because it was our decision. They need to be mindful of players in the field when booking times.Enjoyable course
The course is in a very good condition. The greens are very fast - challenging and rewarding at the same time . I also liked the professionalism of the caddies. We will return
From clubhouse to course we had a very good experience. Course in excellent condition and caddies very knowledgable.Course Info
