Black Mountain Golf Club

Hua Hin is a fantastic place for a golf holiday and there are several excellent golf courses to play.  One of which is Black Mountain Golf Club.  Having opened for play in 2007, Black Mountain Hua Hin continues to set very high standards for golf in Hua Hin and Thailand.

Designed by Phil Ryan, the course is just 30 minutes away from the beach resort of Hua Hin and is very easy to reach.  The 27-hole golf course has been split into three distinct sets of nine holes and you can combine any of the nine holes to make a fantastic 18-hole round of golf.

The host of the first European Tour event to be played in Thailand plus several Asian PGA Tour events, Black Mountain is popular among both players and fans.

Black Mountain is split into the East, North and West Course, with the East being the first set of nine holes created.  Many visitors tend to keep to the original 18 holes of golf which means combining the East and North Courses.

One of the many great things about playing at Black Mountain Golf Club is not only the tremendous conditioning of the course throughout the year but the choice of approach on many of the holes.  Players can choose from taking the safe option, which is suitable for beginner golfers to the most challenging route, which can lead to greater rewards but with bigger risk.

It’s this risk/reward feature which keeps many golfers coming back for more at Black Mountain.

The par-5, 6th hole in the East Course is a great example.  Long hitters on top form can go for the peninsula green in two shots and in doing so, set up the possibility for an eagle.  However, the fairway narrows considerably the further down the fairway you strike the ball and this can lead to danger in terms of sand and water.

The more casual player has the option of taking three shots to the green, which ensure the hazards are easier to negotiate.  You can expect similar scenarios throughout the course and this is what makes Black Mountain Golf Club great for players of all abilities.

Water players a significant role on the original 18 holes and the same can be said for the latest set of nine holes, the West Course.  This opened in 2016 and maintains the same high standards of the original course with some very large greens to negotiate.

The off-course facilities at Black Mountain are second to none and you will find a driving range and pro-shop.  However, the overall resort boasts extensive accommodation options, a water park, restaurant, gym, tennis courts and much more.

You could easily spend a few days at Black Mountain Golf Club enjoying the 27 holes of golf, accommodation and other activities.

Black Mountain Golf Club

Staff is well trained. Facility it good. In fact, toilet is more gorgeous than locker room. The place is appears to be very popular with a lot of golfers.

This is again a golf course without hole layout and numbers. I now realize the Golf course in Thailand is “Do what the caddy says” while no layout of each hole is given, which I like to get each hole visualized before I hit the tee shot, caddy knows almost every single detail of each hole, provided she is an experienced caddy. Otherwise, course is beautiful. I liked the layout and development of ponds and creeks, although some of them smells like sewage.

This is a 'must play' course in Thailand

This is a stunning course in a fantastic location. No wonder it is ranked so highly. The course is in pristine condition, lush fairways and fast greens. Plenty of water on the course, so if your game is a little 'off' make sure you have plenty of balls! The caddies are attentive and knowledgeable with good english. Food and drink were great; we ordered Thai food which is much cheaper. Goods in the pro-shop are expensive. The only slight negative comment was the lack of welcome or friendliness by the 2 ladies in the pro-shop and they were the first people we met - so not a great start. Other than that I couldn't fault the service or experience.

The course was in great condition and the price was reasonable

My only suggestion would be that they install a golf bag rack at the place where players drop off their clubs. Presently there is no rack and clubs are leaned up against other clubs and while I was there I saw some fall over.

The only suggestion I have is that they install a golf bag rack at the bag drop as patently they lean the bags against each other and I witnessed some of them fall over.

Course good but marshals need to help quicker players to play through when held up

Considering the rain the course played very well and I did like the layout very much. My caddie's advice was accurate and will recommend to my friends Caddie Aoy good! Unfortunately there was a group of 2 in front that wouldn't allow me to play through even with Aoy's efforts.
