Thai Diamond Land Kaeng Krachan
About
A scenic location, temperate climate and 9 special Nicklaus-designed holes make this course well worth the trip
Hidden away in the Petchaburi Province on the edge of the large National Park from which it takes its name, Thai Diamond Land Kaeng Krachan lies in an area of extreme natural beauty surrounded by mountains, forests and lakes. Thanks to its altitude, the area enjoys a more temperate climate which makes for a pleasant change from the humidity of the lowland areas around Hua Hin itself.
The original 18 holes (Lake and Valley) were designed by Cherd Bunyaratavej, a famous Thai golf architect, who made good use of the hilly terrain to present an enjoyable challenge. Avoiding the bamboo groves which line many of the fairways requires you to be on your game off the tees, while even the straightest of drives may not find a flat lie for your second.
If you can land your ball on them, the fairways are a joy to play off, and once you have negotiated the many natural water features you will find the greens to be deceptive, albeit a touch slow.
The 9 holes of the Jack Nicklaus-designed Mountain Course opened for play in 2008 and features some of the most dramatic elevation changes seen on a Thailand golf course. With a compelling balance between risk and reward, this international standard course has been picking up rave reviews, not least because it’s quite simply a lot of fun negotiating the ups and downs, bunker-laced fairways, numerous water hazards and sculpted putting surfaces.
Given how remote it is (it takes around an hour to get here from Hua Hin), the course is rarely busy, especially out of season, so you can often find yourself with the run of the course. Definitely worth the trip, even though the accommodation at the attached resort is a little basic. But thanks to the impeccable design of Mr. Nicklaus, the absence of 5-star luxury is just a minor gripe when the course itself is the star of the show.

A hidden gem!
Wonderful layout and maybe the greenest course in Hua Hin. Unfortunately one hour drive from Hua Hin but it is well worth it. The course can compete with both Black Mountain and Banyan. Clubhouse and facilities can not compete but if you want to play a fantastic course, go there. We thoroughly enjoyed the magnificent scenery.
First nine greens were in poor condition, second Valley nine good but not cut. I would recommend this course with a proviso that greens improved. Otherwise most enjoyable. Will play again shortly and put it down for next year.Enjoyable course in country atmosphere.
A great course to play wuth good fairways but greens leave much to be desired. Caddies friendly and helpful. Clubhouse Facilities 3rd class. Will have it on our calendar next year.Course Info
