About
A long-time Hua Hin favourite that offers good scoring opportunities and even better value for money
Once Hua Hin's only international standard golf course, Palm Hills Golf Club has slowly slipped down the pecking order as quality courses proliferated in the area. However, it remains a firm favourite, and although it plays a bit short at just 6,887 yards, it’s an excellent layout with fast, deceptive TifEagle greens.
Despite the palm trees and brightly coloured trees and shrubs, the course has a Scottish links feel, with great views of the Gulf of Thailand from the hilly back nine. The front nine starts with a short-ish par-4 dogleg with a bunker complex protecting the tiger line, but if you can carry the sand you’ll be well set for a birdie change. There’s more peril at the par-5 second, with water down both sides and a green surrounded by bunkers on three sides.
After the long, tough par-3 3rd and another dogleg right, we reach the par-4 5th, one of the best holes on the front nine. With water all the way down the left, sand to the right, and a fairway that pinches and widens, it’s tough to get in position to take on the nervy approach to the well-protected green.
The main hazard on the 6th is the tree/bunker combo that sits dead centre of the fairway, while trees again hamper any attempt to go the direct route to the green on the long par-5 that follows, although it remains a good scoring opportunity. After the nervy tee shot over water on the short 8th, it’s yet another tree in the middle of the fairway that’ll cause the most problems as you round out the back nine with the hardest hole on the course.
The back nine at Palm Hills Golf Club starts strongly with a great run of holes, not least the signature 11th, a medium-length uphill par-3 into the sea breeze where it’s all too easy to underclub. The 12th is another long, doglegging par 5 where carrying the water hazard to the right of the fairway can reap big dividends, but best of all is probably the 14th.
A 384-yard par-4 dog-leg with water running up the left and sand to the right, there’s no safe option beyond accuracy off the tee. A short hole, an iron off the tee is an option but anything too short risks getting the route to the green blocked by trees.
The 15th and 16th, a short par-3 and the longest hole on the course, both offer good scoring opportunities, and if you can avoid the tree that lives in the middle of the 17th fairway, you could be eyeing a good score as you tee up on the last. A long par-4 with bunkers waiting either side of each landing zone, and finding sand will make it tough to avoid dropping a shot.
While the staff are well trained and friendly, particularly the caddies, the changing rooms have seen better days and the pro shop is basic and expensive, never a good combination, although the Thai food on offer at the restaurant is reasonably priced and very tasty.
Overall, it’s a really nice resort course which is in excellent condition and well worth playing on any golf holiday in Hua Hin, not least because the green fees here are somewhat cheaper than some of its more illustrious neighbours.

Perfect conditions, lovely fields and greens well looked after. If you come to Hua Hin, you must visit this course. It is a must.Very nice course, clubhouse needs an upgrade.
The course is very pleasant to play, good balance in distance and condition of fairway and greens were very good. The clubhouse needs a makeover, especially the restaurant. Ps: service in the restaurant was lacking as well.Course Info
