Pineapple Valley Golf Club (Former Banyan Golf Club)

Holes 18 | Par 72 | Length 6731 m / 7361 y | Type Parkland | Architect Pirapon Namatra

Hua Hin is fast becoming known as one of the top places for a golf holiday in Asia.  Located just a few hours away from Bangkok, this popular beach resort has become home to some of the best golf courses in the country.

One of which isPineapple Valley Golf Club.  Opened for play in 2008, Pineapple Valley Golf Club has established a very good reputation for golf in Thailand and was awarded Best New Course in Asia-Pacific by the readers of Asian Golf Monthly just a year after opening.

One glance at the course and it is easy to see why Pineapple Valley Golf Club is so highly regarded.  The 18-hole championship golf course was designed by Pirapon Namatra of Golf East, one of the great golf course designers Thailand.

While water does come into play, it is perhaps not as prominent at Pineapple Valley Golf Club as others throughout the country.  The views from the course are superb and the backdrop of mountains on one side is in contrast to the ocean views on the other side of the course.

Despite not featuring the abundance of water found on some of the other golf courses in Hua Hin, water hazards are present on the 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th holes.  This may seem like a lot but once you get beyond the 7th hole, water is not really a feature on the course.

That’s not to say Pineapple Valley Golf Club becomes an easy course after the 7th hole and there are many tricky holes to look out for on the back nine.  One of which is the short par-3, 15th hole.  This is the signature hole at Pineapple Valley Golf Club and the views to the left from the elevated tee box over the ocean is fantastic, with mountains and valleys off to the right.

The distance to the hole is short but you must know your distance well with each club as it can be deceiving.  The wind also plays a part on this hole and if it picks up when you are on the tee, it can lead to a very tricky shot.  The key is to try and focus on the shot but with the spectacular views surrounding the hole, even that can prove tough.

Each hole at presents a fresh challenge and the par-5, 12th hole presents a nice comparison to the 15th.  This hole plays to a massive 610 yards from the back tee and although the fairway is generous, there are several bunkers waiting to gobble up the ball.

Pineapple Valley Golf Club has a choice of four tee boxes on each hole, so if the 12th sounds too daunting, you can play from one of the other tees and this makes the course suitable for everyone.

In addition to the fabulous golf course, Banyan Golf Club is home to a stylish club house.  It comes complete with locker rooms, showers, pro-shop and terrace restaurant, the latter of which offers tasty cuisine and lovely views of the golf course and mountains.

Pineapple Valley Golf Club (Former Banyan Golf Club)

Played this course twice while in Hua Hin, Thailand, amazing!

Reviewed by ; on
The course is in excellent shape, with greens, fairways, and bunkers. Caddies were excellent/knowledgeable. The carts all had their own GPS. The pro shop was well equipped with both ladies' and men's clothing. We brought our own clubs, however they had clubs to rent. Our only disappointment was that they would not allow alcohol sales in the main restaurant/bar after our game. You could purchase it on the course, then after your game you had to sit in a designated area. We were playing in a group of 24, and this rule didn't sit well with any of us. Also, green fees are a bit on the high side when you compare them with what everything else costs, i.e., hotels, taxis, 5 star dining, clothing, and tours/souvenirs.

Well maintained, top caddies with great course knowledge and good English language skills and sufficient practice facilities. Liked this one very much even if the game was a challenge. Will definitely return. Organisation by Golfsavers was top and check in with our vouchers easy.

Top class golf course. The condition of the course was excellent with the greens fast and fair. Due to Covid it is millionaires golf as there was barely anyone playing. My caddie Gee 039 was great company and very knowledgeable.

Nice course and a pleasure to play.

The Banyan is a very nice established course. Presented very well with excellent fairways and greens. Greens had been recently cored and sanded but still ran quite well. Club was restricted by the COVID 19 social distancing so didn't get inside the club house. Caddy was good and gave some good reads on the green. Very nice place to play golf especially after the enforced layoff from the lock down.

We could not fault any aspect of the course, nor the clubhouse facilities. Fast but receptive greens made for exciting finishes.
