Pineapple Valley Golf Club (Former Banyan Golf Club)

Holes 18 | Par 72 | Length 6731 m / 7361 y | Type Parkland | Architect Pirapon Namatra

Hua Hin is fast becoming known as one of the top places for a golf holiday in Asia.  Located just a few hours away from Bangkok, this popular beach resort has become home to some of the best golf courses in the country.

One of which isPineapple Valley Golf Club.  Opened for play in 2008, Pineapple Valley Golf Club has established a very good reputation for golf in Thailand and was awarded Best New Course in Asia-Pacific by the readers of Asian Golf Monthly just a year after opening.

One glance at the course and it is easy to see why Pineapple Valley Golf Club is so highly regarded.  The 18-hole championship golf course was designed by Pirapon Namatra of Golf East, one of the great golf course designers Thailand.

While water does come into play, it is perhaps not as prominent at Pineapple Valley Golf Club as others throughout the country.  The views from the course are superb and the backdrop of mountains on one side is in contrast to the ocean views on the other side of the course.

Despite not featuring the abundance of water found on some of the other golf courses in Hua Hin, water hazards are present on the 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th holes.  This may seem like a lot but once you get beyond the 7th hole, water is not really a feature on the course.

That’s not to say Pineapple Valley Golf Club becomes an easy course after the 7th hole and there are many tricky holes to look out for on the back nine.  One of which is the short par-3, 15th hole.  This is the signature hole at Pineapple Valley Golf Club and the views to the left from the elevated tee box over the ocean is fantastic, with mountains and valleys off to the right.

The distance to the hole is short but you must know your distance well with each club as it can be deceiving.  The wind also plays a part on this hole and if it picks up when you are on the tee, it can lead to a very tricky shot.  The key is to try and focus on the shot but with the spectacular views surrounding the hole, even that can prove tough.

Each hole at presents a fresh challenge and the par-5, 12th hole presents a nice comparison to the 15th.  This hole plays to a massive 610 yards from the back tee and although the fairway is generous, there are several bunkers waiting to gobble up the ball.

Pineapple Valley Golf Club has a choice of four tee boxes on each hole, so if the 12th sounds too daunting, you can play from one of the other tees and this makes the course suitable for everyone.

In addition to the fabulous golf course, Banyan Golf Club is home to a stylish club house.  It comes complete with locker rooms, showers, pro-shop and terrace restaurant, the latter of which offers tasty cuisine and lovely views of the golf course and mountains.

Pineapple Valley Golf Club (Former Banyan Golf Club)

Beautiful course, friendly caddy.

After 3 holes, it rained heavily, making the course unplayable. The caddy master offered to give us a rain check valid for 45 days. We explained that it would be quite useless for us as foreign visitors. Then the course manager came and offered us rain check with no expiry date. After some chatting with the course manager and understanding his concern of not opening the course (due to water flowing off slowly),, he assured us that if we wanted to wait, he would open the course at the first instance it is playable. We waited and were rewarded with open skies, and we managed to finish our game. A special mention to the staff , especially the manager, for considering our situation and trying to make it a memorial one for us. Other than on a rainy day, the course is perfect for any golfer looking for a pleasant experience.

Early bird. Just the guy with that mobile leaf blower who followed me most of the 18. Just doing his job, but the noise costed me few strokes :)

Top condition. Little remarks on the course itself. Thanks to the good management and caretakers (incl mobile leaf blowers)

Course is in fantastic condition, despite the difficulties of the past couple of years!

Experience was excellent, organized, efficient, and on time! A great day, and a great course, if tough! Almost perfect! beautifully maintained. Caddies are excellent too! Better than we’d expected, given so many other aspects of Hua Hin have suffered due to COVID! Congrats to management & staff!

Course was in great shape from Tee to Green...could not have wished for better playing conditions.

Challenging...rolling terrain makes for a fun day...nothing flat about this course...I am used to playing on greens with a stemp of 12, so these greens were obviously much slower than what I am used to, but I understand the reason why...even then, greens were in great shape and true...couldn't tell you much about the sand traps, thankfully...
